Rahul Gandhi detained again on second day of CEC protest

Delhi Police on Wednesday detained Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and several opposition MPs again on the second straight day of protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to Reuters, the INDIA bloc MPs launched an unannounced protest near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. Those detained included Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Manoj Jha and Derek O'Brien. The leaders were released after about two hours, the Daily Jagran reported.
The opposition alleges irregularities in the Election Commission's functioning and opposes the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, raising the issue of "vote chori". A day earlier, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi had staged a nine-hour sit-in outside Akashvani Bhawan, and police registered an FIR over their entry into the premises on October 6.
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal called the police action an attack on the Constitution and said the party would continue its campaign until Kumar is removed. The Congress has announced protests across states on October 8, observing it as a "Black Day" for democracy.
