India, Switzerland launch new research framework in New Delhi

India and Switzerland have launched the Indo-Swiss Research Framework (ISRF), a new long-term pact for scientific collaboration.
The framework was inaugurated on October 6 in New Delhi at the Indo-Swiss Research Flagship Event 2026. Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr Jitendra Singh attended alongside Swiss President Guy Parmelin, Swiss Ambassador Maya Tissafi and State Secretary Martina Hirayama.
The pact focuses on biomedical research, systems medicine, mental health and the "One Health" approach, which links human, animal and environmental health. It builds on two decades of cooperation that began with a 2003 agreement and a joint research programme in 2005.
Switzerland has pledged CHF 45 million for the framework, with a matching commitment expected from India. Co-funded "Explore" grants for rapid prototyping will start in November.
The two countries also signed five pacts covering migration, young professionals, transport and innovation. A Young Professionals Scheme will admit 300 people from each country annually. Parmelin invited India to the Geneva AI Summit in 2027.
