Cabinet hails Modi’s 25 years as elected head of government

The Union Cabinet on Tuesday passed a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years of continuous leadership as an elected head of government.
Modi completed the milestone on October 7, 2026. He first took oath as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and became Prime Minister in May 2014.
The 10-point resolution described the journey as guided by "Nation First and Citizen First". It traced how Gujarat-era initiatives were taken national, citing the SWAGAT grievance-redressal system, which won the UN Public Service Award in 2010, and the Jyotigram rural electrification programme.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw briefed reporters after the Cabinet meeting. The resolution noted three terms as Gujarat Chief Minister and three successive Lok Sabha victories as evidence of public trust.
It also highlighted reforms like the Goods and Services Tax, growth in public capital expenditure and electronics manufacturing, and welfare programmes from Jan Dhan accounts to housing.
The Manipur Cabinet separately passed a resolution thanking Modi for 25 years of public service. The BJP's month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, launched on Modi's birthday on September 17, culminated in events across states on October 7.
