Gujarat Approves Rs 21,840 Stipend for Foreign Medical Graduates

The Gujarat government has approved a monthly stipend of Rs 21,840 for foreign medical graduate interns in the state.
The stipend matches what regular MBBS interns in Gujarat receive. It removes a long-standing pay gap for FMG interns.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya announced the decision after a meeting in Gandhinagar with officials.
Foreign medical graduates must complete an internship in India before they can practise. The stipend applies to that period.
FMG interns had demanded parity for years. They argued their work in hospitals equals that of regular interns.
The decision will benefit hundreds of interns across Gujarat's medical colleges and hospitals.
Other states have different stipend policies. Gujarat's move may prompt similar demands elsewhere.
The stipend takes effect as per the government order. Interns are expected to see it in their monthly payments soon.
The stipend decision follows representations from FMG associations. They had met health officials in Gandhinagar earlier this year.
