North Korea’s UN voicemail ‘hacked’ by prankster: what happened

Someone appears to have hacked the voicemail of North Korea’s mission to the United Nations as a prank, CNN and NK News reported.
The prankster left mocking messages on the mission’s answering machine. NK News said the hacker wanted to ridicule the secretive country.
The mission’s phone system was apparently not properly secured. The messages circulated online after the hack.
North Korea is better known for serious cyberattacks of its own. Its Lazarus group has been blamed for major bank heists around the world.
This time, the joke was on Pyongyang. The mission has not publicly commented on the incident.
Experts say even small security lapses can cause embarrassment. The episode is a reminder that weak phone systems can be an easy target for pranksters.
The mission sits in Manhattan, far from Pyongyang’s control. Diplomats often become targets of pranks and protests in New York. Phone hacking of diplomatic missions is rare but not unheard of in New York.
