Women in Film India and Google Launch AI Filmathon for Creators

Women in Film India, led by producer Guneet Monga Kapoor, has partnered with Google to launch a Filmathon aimed at women creators working with artificial intelligence. The initiative was announced on October 6.
The programme centres on Google Flow, the company’s AI filmmaking tool that combines its Gemini Omni models with the Veo video generation system. Participants will learn to use AI-assisted tools to develop and produce short films, lowering the technical barriers that often keep new voices out of filmmaking.
Dr. Arathi Sethumadhavan, Google’s India lead for AI and accessibility research, said AI tools can let women tell stories on their own terms by putting production power directly in creators’ hands.
The Filmathon reflects a growing push to bring more women into technical creative roles in Indian cinema. Women in Film India has been building programmes around training and mentorship, and the Google collaboration adds AI literacy to that effort. Further details on applications and timelines are expected to follow.
