Mahindra Thar Electric Spied Testing for the First Time

Mahindra’s upcoming Thar Electric has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the first time, giving the clearest look yet at the production version of the electric off-roader. The spy shots surfaced on Tuesday through automotive outlets covering the test mule.
The prototype stays close to the Vision T concept that Mahindra showed in August 2025. It keeps the boxy five-door silhouette, round LED daytime running lights, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and chunky off-road tyres. Inside, reports point to a large digital display, a reworked dashboard and an independent rear suspension.
The Thar Electric is expected to ride on Mahindra’s NU_IQ platform, which supports electric, petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains. The architecture was designed for flexible body styles and is set to underpin the company’s next generation of SUVs.
Mahindra has not confirmed a launch date, but the five-door ICE Thar and the Thar Roxx have kept the brand’s off-road lineup busy. Industry watchers expect the electric Thar to arrive in 2028 or later, positioning it as a rival to upcoming electric lifestyle SUVs.
