IndiGo Hikes Fuel Surcharge; Airfares to Rise From Oct 6

Flying is set to get costlier on IndiGo. India’s largest airline has raised the fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights, with the new charges applying to all new bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6.
On domestic routes, the surcharge now ranges from Rs 375 for flights up to 500 km to Rs 1,300 for routes above 2,000 km. The hike is Rs 100 to Rs 350 per sector, depending on distance. Existing bookings are not affected.
International passengers will also pay more. The surcharge is Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000 for SAARC routes, Rs 5,500 for Southeast Asia, the Gulf, the Middle East and North and East Asia, Rs 6,000 for Africa and Rs 10,000 for Europe.
IndiGo said aviation turbine fuel prices have risen more than 14 percent month on month, reaching among the highest levels in a decade. This is the second hike since April; the surcharge was introduced in March.
The airline said fuel is a major share of operating costs, so the rise will affect its cost structure. Travellers booking now will see the revised component in their fares.
