South Korea’s Nuri Rocket Set for First Private-Led Launch

South Korea’s homegrown Nuri rocket is set to lift off from the Naro Space Center on October 7, carrying a record 15 satellites in its fifth flight.
The launch window runs from 12:23 pm to 1:23 pm Korea time, with a backup period from October 8 to 14. The rocket will place five NEONSAT microsatellites and ten CubeSats into a sun-synchronous orbit about 570 km above Earth.
This is the first Nuri flight with private company Hanwha Aerospace in end-to-end operational command. Over 75 percent of launch operations are being handled by Hanwha staff, while the Korea Aerospace Research Institute moves into an oversight role.
The five NEONSAT satellites, the main payload, will support national security and disaster response missions in a planned sequence.
A launch management committee will meet on the morning of October 7 to review weather and safety before setting the final launch time. The flight is seen as a key test of South Korea’s space privatisation model.
