Rahul, Priyanka Among 250 Detained After 8-Hour Sit-In

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among around 250 people detained by Delhi Police on Tuesday night after an eight-hour sit-in at Akashvani Bhawan in New Delhi, PTI reported.
The protest began as an INDIA bloc march to the Election Commission’s office against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition leaders allege irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Delhi Police stopped the march with barricades, and Rahul Gandhi was seen climbing one of them.
Congress leaders then entered the Akashvani Bhawan premises on Parliament Street and began a dharna. Police sources said around 50 MPs were among those detained. The detainees were taken to New Police Lines at Kingsway Camp and released later in the night.
Delhi Police said about 260 protesters, including 10 MPs, were detained to maintain law and order. The Congress says its leaders were demanding a meeting with the Election Commissioners.
The protest is part of the opposition’s wider ‘Save Democracy’ campaign against the poll body, and leaders have demanded the Chief Election Commissioner’s resignation.
