Rashmika Mandanna has shared a glimpse of her upcoming role as legendary Carnatic vocalist M.S. Subbulakshmi in the biopic MS, A Legacy On Screen. She posted a series of photographs on Instagram, writing that she was eternally grateful for the opportunity.

The pan-India biopic was launched on September 16 at the Music Academy in Chennai on Subbulakshmi’s 110th birth anniversary. Actor Kamal Haasan officially launched the project and gave the ceremonial first clap for a scene featuring Rashmika.

The film is directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri and produced by Allu Aravind, Rockline Venkatesh and Bunny Vasu. Anirudh Ravichander will compose the music. Members of Subbulakshmi’s family and leading Carnatic musicians attended the launch.

Subbulakshmi, a recipient of the Bharat Ratna, mesmerised listeners across the world for decades with her divine voice. The director said the film aims to show the woman behind the achievements, including her discipline, patience and sacrifices. Details about the release date have not been announced.
