India Routed 6-1 by Uruguay in Kolkata Friendly

India suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to Uruguay in a FIFA international friendly at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday, ending their October international window on a losing note.
Darwin Nunez gave Uruguay the lead from the penalty spot in the 11th minute. Anirudh Thapa equalised for India in the 22nd minute, and the match was then halted for 39 minutes because of lightning. After the restart, Maximiliano Araujo restored Uruguay’s lead in the 28th minute.
Rodrigo Zalazar scored twice in the second half, in the 53rd and 58th minutes. Juan Manuel Sanabria made it 5-1 in the 71st minute, and substitute Rodrigo Aguirre completed the rout in the 86th minute.
The result capped a difficult window for India, who drew 1-1 with Panama and lost 0-4 to Brazil earlier. Uruguay were coached by Diego Forlan, the former Manchester United striker who previously played in India. India will now focus on their upcoming competitive fixtures after testing themselves against three World Cup teams.
