Assam Rifles foils ULFA(I) ambush plot in Arunachal, holds two

The Assam Rifles has foiled an alleged IED-cum-ambush plot by the banned ULFA(I) in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said. Two suspected cadres were apprehended in the Miao area on October 5. A Road Opening Party first caught one suspected cadre along the Miao-Vijaynagar road. Inputs from that operation led to the second arrest. The force recovered one AK-56 rifle, three magazines and 90 rounds of ammunition. The Assam Rifles said the operation disrupted a planned attack on security forces in the area. Further investigation is under way to find whether more people were involved. ULFA(I), or the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), is a banned militant group active in the Northeast. Security forces have intensified operations in the region amid ongoing border fencing work. The force said the swift action prevented a possible strike on its personnel. Officials said intelligence-based operations will continue across the border districts of the state.
