Google cuts free Gemini to one model from October 9

Google is cutting free Gemini users to a single model from October 9. Free users will get only Gemini Flash-Lite. They will lose access to Gemini Flash and Gemini Pro. The change was reported by 9to5Google from Google’s support document. It applies to personal accounts without an AI subscription. The 4.99-dollar AI Plus plan also loses Pro later in October. Plus subscribers keep Flash-Lite and Flash. The 19.99-dollar AI Pro plan keeps all models. AI Pro also gains Deep Think, a feature earlier reserved for Ultra plans. Deep Think offers maximum parallel reasoning. Google will add low, medium and high effort settings for every model. Higher effort gives deeper answers but uses more of the user’s limit. The limits reset every five hours with a weekly cap. The change follows Google’s May switch to compute-based usage limits. Analysts say the cuts come down to compute costs. The move pushes users toward paid plans. Some users say the cuts make cheaper plans harder to sell. Google has not given a reason for the change. Emails will tell Plus users their exact changeover date.
