India face Uruguay in Kolkata friendly to end international window

India’s men’s football team faces two-time World Cup champions Uruguay in a friendly at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Tuesday. Kick-off is at 7:30 pm IST.
The match closes India’s three-match international window. The Blue Tigers drew 1-1 with Panama in Bengaluru before losing 4-0 to Brazil in Kolkata. Head coach Khalid Jamil has picked a 26-member squad for the window.
Uruguay bring their trademark physicality, intensity and technical quality. Their squad includes several experienced internationals, making this another stern test for India.
The window was announced as a test against World Cup opposition, with all three opponents having featured at the FIFA World Cup earlier this year. Uruguay, coached by Diego Forlan according to one preview, are led on the pitch by captain Steve Mounie.
The Blue Tigers will look to end the window on a positive note. Players such as goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, Sandesh Jhingan, Anirudh Thapa and Lallianzuala Chhangte will be key if India are to match Uruguay’s intensity in front of the Kolkata crowd.
