Congress Blames BJP For Rs 4.03 Lakh Crore FII Outflow

The Congress on Tuesday attacked the BJP government over the economy, claiming foreign institutional investors withdrew Rs 4.03 lakh crore in 2026 and that FII equity exposure fell to a 17-year low, according to The Hindu.
PTI-sourced figures show FIIs sold about Rs 2.37 lakh crore through mid-August, with analysts noting 141 net-sell days out of 234 trading days in 2026. The party linked the outflows to market weakness and the rupee’s slide toward 96 to the dollar.
Separately, the Congress also attacked the government over the market fall and the middle-class tax burden, according to a global broadcast report. The party has argued that capital is leaving because business conditions in India have worsened.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had earlier attributed FII selling to profit booking, saying investors were cashing in gains made on Indian equities. The BJP has not responded to the latest figures cited by the Congress.
