IMD warns of heavy rain, storms across several states

The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several states, with alerts issued for 23 states.
The department said heavy rain is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, while thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph may hit Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Strong winds are also expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Rain is expected at many places in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and the Andaman-Nicobar Islands may also see rain.
The southwest monsoon is now withdrawing from the north and central parts of the country. IMD said the monsoon may further retreat from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat in the next 24 hours.
Residents have been advised to limit outings during heavy rain. Heavy rain in hilly areas could raise the risk of landslides. Delhi and nearby areas may see moderate rain with gusty winds.
