Airlines oppose Adani’s Mumbai airport slot cut plan

Airlines are resisting a plan by Adani-run Mumbai International Airport to temporarily withdraw 265 of 770 weekly international departure slots at Terminal 2 from October 25.
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) says the move will free space at T2 for domestic flights displaced by the redevelopment of Terminal 1. The proposal affects 46 airlines.
Airlines say MIAL first spoke of moving operations to Navi Mumbai, but the latest plan pulls a third of international departures instead. An airline with 10 weekly departures would lose about three.
The Airline Operators Committee-Mumbai has asked for details of the capacity calculation behind the figure. MIAL says the move is temporary and airlines may relocate at their discretion.
The Civil Aviation Ministry was to meet airlines on October 6 over the proposal, according to CNBC-TV18. IndiGo faces the biggest cut, losing 74 of its 224 weekly international departure slots. Air India would lose 33 of 100, Emirates and Etihad 10 each.
The standoff comes as the Terminal 1 redevelopment is set to begin in January 2027. The work will temporarily affect about 5 million passengers a year before a new Terminal 1 opens with capacity for 20 million passengers a year.
