Rahul, Priyanka Gandhi detained in Delhi anti-CEC protest

Delhi police detained opposition MPs on Tuesday, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The detentions happened at barricades near the Election Commission office. Television channels reported the action as lawmakers tried to push through the barricades.
The INDIA bloc had announced a march demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The march began from Parliament around 11 am. It headed to the Election Commission office nearby. Congress said the march would start as planned.
Hundreds of security personnel were deployed in the heart of the capital. Barricades went up outside the EC office, close to Parliament and government offices. Police advised commuters to avoid the area. Some routes were closed.
The opposition alleges the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists benefits the ruling BJP. The Election Commission and the BJP deny the charges. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav also joined the march.
The Supreme Court agreed on Monday to hear a petition on the voter-drive row. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra attacked the government after the detentions. She called it cowardly. The protests over the electoral roll revision have continued for weeks.
