Trump approves firing squad execution for Fort Hood killer

Washington, October 6: President Donald Trump has approved the execution of former Army Major Nidal Hasan by military firing squad.
The Pentagon announced the decision on Monday. It came at the recommendation of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Spokesman Sean Parnell posted the news on X, writing, "Judgement day for Hasan has finally come."
Hasan killed 13 people and wounded 32 others in the November 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas. He opened fire on unarmed soldiers preparing to deploy. A military court sentenced him to death in 2013.
The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Under army policy, it must happen within 150 days of presidential approval but not sooner than 60 days.
This would be the first US military execution since 1961, when the Army hanged Private John Bennett. Hasan, now 56, is held at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He is one of four inmates on the military's death row.
