Rupee Seen Near Record Lows, Reuters Poll Shows

The Indian rupee is expected to languish near record lows over the next three to six months, a Reuters poll of 35 currency strategists found.
The rupee was forecast to trade around 96.10 per dollar in three months and weaken to 96.50 by end-March. In a year, it is seen falling to a record low of 97.50. The currency is down nearly 7 per cent against the dollar in 2026.
Foreign investors have sold nearly $29 billion of Indian equities this year. US Treasury yields near 5.25 per cent are pulling money toward safer American assets, even though India is the world’s fastest-growing major economy.
The Reserve Bank of India has intervened heavily to slow the fall. Traders say the psychologically key 100-per-dollar level could arrive within six months at the current pace of decline.
A dip in oil prices and fading bets on a US October rate hike gave the rupee mild relief this week, but analysts expect the pressure to return.
