Gold hits record highs on festive demand surge

Gold prices touched fresh record highs in India as festive season demand surged, with buyers rushing to purchase ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali. Jewellers reported strong footfall as consumers sought to lock in prices amid expectations of further gains. The yellow metal has been on a sustained rally this year, driven by global economic uncertainty, central bank buying, and a weaker dollar.
Silver also scaled new peaks, trading in a record range. Analysts said the combination of wedding season demand and investment buying was supporting prices. However, they cautioned that the sharp run-up could lead to profit-booking in the near term.
Consumers were advised to check hallmarking and making charges before buying. The record prices have also boosted the value of household gold holdings across the country. Jewellers are offering festive discounts to attract buyers despite the high prices.
Many consumers are opting for lightweight jewellery or gold coins. The trend reflects gold's enduring appeal as a safe haven.
