Ben Affleck and Kerry Washington star in "Animals", a six-episode limited series premiering on Netflix on October 8. The show follows a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife after their son is kidnapped.

As the couple scramble to raise the ransom, they are drawn into a web of deception and forced to make choices that could tear their family apart. The series mixes a crime thriller with a political drama.

"Animals" is part of a packed October on Netflix. "Below", a six-episode series with Josh Hartnett about a sea creature terrorizing a coastal town, premieres on October 7. "Haunted Hotel" season 2 and "Is It Cake? Halloween" season 2 arrive on October 9.

Affleck, who has moved between acting and directing in recent years, takes the lead in a story about power, family and secrets. With a kidnapping at its centre and an election in the background, "Animals" is positioned as one of the month's bigger streaming bets.
