Saudi Arabia Face UAE in Gulf Cup Final
Saudi Arabia will face the United Arab Emirates in the Gulf Cup final on Tuesday at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Reuters reported. The hosts are chasing their first title in 22 years.
Saudi Arabia edged Asian champions Qatar 3-2 on penalties in the semi-final after 120 goalless minutes. Goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais, 34, made two saves in the shootout, denying Jassem Gaber and Boualem Khoukhi from the spot.
The UAE beat Oman 1-0 on Saturday to reach the final for the first time since 2018. Forward Ousmane Camara scored the only goal with a close-range header, though playmaker Nicolas Gimenez missed a penalty in the 56th minute.
Oman had reached the semi-finals after advancing ahead of Iraq by lot when the teams finished level on all Group A tiebreakers. The UAE are seeking their third Gulf Cup title after triumphs in 2007 and 2013. A home final against a Gulf rival is the perfect stage.
