Bouquet Fire 48% Contained At 1,048 Acres Near Santa Clarita

Firefighters have contained 48 per cent of the Bouquet Fire burning in the Angeles National Forest near Santa Clarita. The fire has burned 1,048 acres as of Monday, October 5.

The fire was reported on October 3 near Bouquet Canyon Road and Quarry Road. It spread rapidly through chaparral and grass in steep, hard-to-reach terrain, triggering evacuation orders.

Bouquet Canyon Road remains closed from Spunky Canyon to milepost 5.7, according to the Angeles National Forest. The Rowher Flat and Drinkwater off-highway vehicle areas are also closed. Officials urged drivers to avoid the area so crews can move freely.

Residents in zones LAC-E018, LAC-E030-B and LAC-E031-A remain under evacuation orders. Evacuation warnings apply to several more zones around Bouquet Canyon. Evacuees can shelter at the Castaic Sports Complex Community Room.

Southern California is facing a heat wave, with extreme heat warnings through October 8. Officials said rising temperatures could increase fire activity during the day.

A smoke advisory is in effect for the Santa Clarita Valley, the Interstate 5 corridor and the Angeles National Forest. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
