Trump Pushes Diesel Relief For Farmers At Nebraska Rally

President Donald Trump on Monday used a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, to press diesel relief for farmers during the harvest season. The administration plans to ease federal limits on the use of tax-exempt dyed diesel on highways.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on October 5 that the administration is prioritising diesel in the release of 100 million barrels of emergency oil and diesel stocks agreed with G7 partners on October 2. She said diesel prices have already fallen about 15 cents a gallon in recent days.
The American Farm Bureau Federation had asked Trump in an October 1 letter to suspend the 24.4 cents-per-gallon federal diesel tax for farm transport and waive federal penalties for emergency use of dyed diesel on highways.
Several states have already acted. Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen signed two executive orders on September 24 allowing dyed diesel on highways without state penalties and granting weight-limit relief for farm haulers for 90 days.
The national average diesel price stood at $6.382 a gallon on September 28, according to federal data. Trump also campaigned for Senator Pete Ricketts’s re-election at the rally.
