Shreyas Iyer has emerged as the frontrunner in a three-way race to become India’s T20I captain, according to reports. A decision from the selectors is expected soon.

Iyer is currently leading the side in the T20I series against the West Indies. His calm leadership and consistent batting in the middle order have strengthened his case.

The captaincy question has been open since the last leadership change. Selectors are weighing experience, current form and long-term planning as they make the call.

Iyer has led IPL franchises in the past and is seen as a tactically sharp leader. His ability to stay composed under pressure counts in his favour.

An official announcement is awaited. The new captain will lead India into a packed T20 calendar, with major tournaments on the horizon.

Iyer’s rise reflects the selectors’ trust in his temperament. A strong series against the West Indies would seal his claim to the role.
