ICC fines India, West Indies for slow over-rate in 3rd ODI

The ICC has fined India and West Indies for slow over-rates in the third ODI at Mullanpur on October 3. India lost 20 per cent of their match fee, West Indies 10 per cent.
After time allowances, India were found four overs short and West Indies two overs short. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC code, teams are fined five per cent of the fee for each over bowled late.
Match referee Prakash Bhatt imposed the sanctions. Captains Shubman Gill and Shai Hope pleaded guilty, so no formal hearing was needed.
The match itself was a thriller. West Indies chased down 352 in 48.2 overs to win by five wickets. It was their highest successful ODI chase, topping their 331 against Ireland in 2019.
Captain Shai Hope’s unbeaten 162 was the highest score by a West Indies batter in a successful chase. It beat Brian Lara’s 153 against Pakistan from 1993.
West Indies were fined for the same offence in July against New Zealand. The teams now meet in a five-match T20I series starting October 6 in Lucknow.
