Germany gives Ukraine over 1.3 billion euros in new aid

Germany has announced more than 1.3 billion euros in new support for Ukraine. The package was unveiled during Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kyiv on Sunday.
About 1 billion euros will go to military assistance. It covers long-range weapons, combat drones and satellite technology. Germany will also help produce interceptor drones designed to counter Russia’s jet-powered attack drones.
Another 350 million euros is meant for Ukraine’s energy grid. The money will fund generators, substation repairs and recovery work ahead of winter. Russia has been striking power plants and substations across the country.
Merz travelled by train with Economy Minister Katherina Reiche and executives from German defence and energy firms. Air-raid sirens sounded in Kyiv as he arrived. The two governments also signed agreements worth more than 8.5 billion euros.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Germany for the aid. He said Russia’s attacks appear aimed at damaging the energy system before winter. Germany has now provided over 40 billion euros in support since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022.
