NHPC lowers generator stator at Subansiri Lower project

NHPC has successfully lowered the generator stator of its 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower hydroelectric project, marking a key construction milestone. The stator lowering is a critical step in the erection of the project’s generating units. Subansiri Lower, on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, is India’s largest hydroelectric project under construction. The run-of-river project has faced long delays and is closely watched as a major addition to India’s hydropower capacity. The generator stator is one of the heaviest components of a hydroelectric unit, and its successful lowering requires precise engineering. Each unit of the plant will go through similar erection stages before commissioning. Large hydropower projects are a key part of India’s push to expand non-fossil electricity capacity alongside solar and wind. Further milestones in the coming months will show how quickly the first units move toward generation. For the region, the project’s progress matters for both power supply and local employment during construction.
