Flipkart doubles active seller base in 15 months

Flipkart’s active seller base has nearly doubled over the past 15 months, the e-commerce major has reported. Business Standard reported the milestone on October 4.
The company attributed the growth to its zero-commission initiatives in softlines and marketplace grocery, along with simplified onboarding for new sellers. AI-led tools that help with selection, pricing and catalogues have also played a role.
The zero-commission push is part of Flipkart’s bid to win sellers from rivals. The company extended zero commission to all fashion products across price points earlier this year, benefiting around 90,000 sellers including small businesses and direct-to-consumer brands.
Ravikant Savla of Flipkart noted that e-commerce has become a daily habit for Indians, with quick commerce adding to the shift. The 2025 festive period saw record participation from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, showing that the next wave of online shoppers is coming from smaller towns.
A larger seller base means wider product choice for buyers and stronger competition on prices. For Flipkart, which is backed by Walmart, seller growth is a key measure of marketplace health as India’s online retail battle intensifies.
