Deutsche Telekom bets on AI for 2.5bn euro savings

Deutsche Telekom expects artificial intelligence and automation to save it around 2.5 billion euros in indirect costs by 2030, compared to 2023. The German telecom group shared the target on Monday ahead of an AI investor event.
The company said AI already detects peak traffic on mobile networks earlier and supports customer service staff in resolving issues faster. Gross savings outside the US are estimated at 1.1 billion euros in 2027. Part of those savings will be reinvested in Germany’s digital infrastructure and fibre-optic network.
Deutsche Telekom also sees a “major business opportunity” in Europe’s push for sovereign AI. It aims to raise AI-related revenue from business customers outside the US to around 800 million euros by 2030, up from about 250 million euros expected this year.
Chief executive Tim Hoettges said AI is fundamentally transforming the company, making networks smarter and service more personal. The group confirmed its 2026 outlook and medium-term targets.
