IndiGo raises fuel charges on tickets from Oct 6

IndiGo will raise fuel charges on domestic and international flights for all new bookings made from October 6. The airline announced the hike on Monday, citing elevated aviation turbine fuel prices.
According to Reuters, fuel charges on domestic routes will rise to between Rs 375 and Rs 1,300 per sector. International charges will range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000. The revised charges apply to bookings made from 12:01 am on October 6.
The domestic structure is now distance-based. Short sectors up to 500 km will carry a Rs 275 charge, rising to Rs 950 for sectors above 2,000 km. On international routes, flights to the UK and Europe will attract the highest charge of Rs 10,000 per sector.
Fuel is one of the biggest costs for airlines, accounting for up to 40 per cent of operating expenses. IndiGo had first introduced fuel charges in March as fuel prices surged. The latest revision means passengers will pay more than the base fare at the time of booking.
