Anti-CEC protests enter third day in Delhi, Mumbai

Thousands of protesters gathered in Delhi and Mumbai for a third consecutive day on Sunday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In Mumbai, opposition leaders Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray led protests calling for Kumar’s resignation and the scrapping of electoral roll revisions. In Delhi, protesters began gathering in the evening and police detained dozens, a Reuters witness said.
The protesters allege that a nationwide voter-roll revision exercise launched last year removed millions of eligible voters from electoral rolls. They claim the changes benefit the ruling BJP. The Election Commission and the BJP deny the allegations.
Delhi Police registered three cases over Friday’s protests under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. NSUI activists, including the group’s national president Vinod Jakhar, were among those detained.
The agitation is set to continue. An opposition alliance plans a march to the Election Commission office on Monday, and a Gen Z group has announced a rally in Delhi on October 10.
