Delhi-Chennai expressway to link 7 states, target 2027

The 2,200-kilometre Delhi-Chennai expressway project is moving toward completion across seven states. The corridor promises faster freight and travel between north and south India.
The network passes through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The main route runs through Noida, Agra, Gwalior, Nagpur, Hyderabad and Chennai.
Several sections are already open, including the Yamuna Expressway and parts of the Delhi-Mumbai expressway. Greenfield links like the Agra-Gwalior connector are under construction.
Vehicles can travel at up to 120 km per hour on the greenfield sections. Officials are targeting full integration of the network by 2027.
The project is expected to cut travel time and freight costs along one of India’s busiest trade routes. The Bengaluru-Chennai expressway, part of the network, is also moving fast across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Land acquisition for the remaining stretches is nearly complete, officials said. The corridor will also connect to key ports and industrial hubs, helping manufacturers move goods faster and cheaper.
