Flipkart doubles active seller base in 15 months

Flipkart has doubled its active seller base in 15 months, the Walmart-owned e-commerce firm said, driven by a zero-commission model, simplified onboarding and AI-led tools for selection, pricing and catalogues.
The growth comes ahead of the festive shopping season and the company’s flagship Big Billion Days sale. Transacting sellers rose about 25 percent in the past six months, while seller business grew roughly 30 percent in the quarter through August.
Sakait Chaudhary, senior vice president and head of marketplace at Flipkart, said the festive season is a pivotal opportunity for the seller community. The company is helping merchants with AI-powered NXT Insights, a revamped Seller Hub and generative-AI inventory guidance.
Flipkart is also diversifying its seller geography beyond traditional commercial centres. New trade hubs such as Kannauj for perfumes, Khurja for pottery and Shantipur for handlooms are joining the platform, giving lakhs of MSMEs and artisans wider reach.
The onboarding push is expected to support higher festive sales as online retail firms target a record season this year.
