Injured Harshit Rana out, Yash Thakur named replacement

India fast bowler Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games after suffering another injury during rehabilitation.
The BCCI confirmed that Rana sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. He had been progressing well after a hamstring injury suffered during the England tour in July.
The men’s selection committee has named Yash Thakur as his replacement in both squads. Thakur, the 27-year-old Vidarbha pacer, made his T20I debut on the tour of Zimbabwe in July, taking four wickets in two matches.
Thakur has also taken 81 wickets in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches at an economy rate of 7.04, catching the selectors’ eye with his control.
Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy have been named in the squads and are awaiting final fitness clearance. Shreyas Iyer will captain the side.
