Claude goes live in India with in-country AI processing

Anthropic has switched on in-country inference for its Claude models in India through Amazon Bedrock, meaning requests from Indian customers are now processed on servers inside the country.
The launch covers Claude Opus 5, Sonnet 5 and Haiku 4.5. For banks, insurers, government bodies and large companies operating under strict data rules, local processing removes a key barrier to deploying AI on sensitive work.
India managing director Irina Ghose said the company committed in August to bring Claude inference to India and is now delivering on that promise. AWS India president Sandeep Dutta said data residency decides whether AI stays confined to pilots or reaches full production in regulated sectors.
India is one of the largest markets for Claude in the world, and the move deepens Anthropic’s bet on the country’s developers and institutions.
The company says it will keep growing its India team and investing in local partnerships as adoption grows.
