India’s T20I captain Shreyas Iyer has promised fearless batting and a win-first philosophy ahead of the five-match T20I series against the West Indies starting October 6.

In a JioStar interview aired on October 4, Iyer said he wants to set the tone at the top. I can take down bowlers left, right, centre, he said, adding that a captain must lead from the front, according to Nation Press.

Iyer also spoke warmly about young opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He is a very silent guy, but on the field, he is very destructive, the captain said, adding that he often talks to the youngster about life off the field and that the players share a strong bond.

The most important thing for me is to win the series, and then we can experiment, Iyer said, making clear that results come before experimentation.

Iyer led India to the gold medal at the Asian Games and now takes charge of the T20I side with Tilak Varma as his deputy. The first T20I begins at 7 PM IST on October 6 in Lucknow, live on JioHotstar and the Star Sports Network.
