Rico Lewis called up to England squad for Czechia clash

Rico Lewis has been called up to the England senior squad for Tuesday’s Nations League match against Czechia at Wembley. The Manchester City full-back was promoted from the under-21s on Sunday as cover after his club team-mate Nico O’Reilly withdrew with injury. Lewis, 21, has five senior caps, the last coming in November 2024 against Greece.
He helped Lee Carsley’s under-21 side secure qualification for the 2027 European Championship during this international break. England initially said no replacement would be called up for O’Reilly, but Thomas Tuchel changed course ahead of the final match of the window. The versatile defender can play at right-back, left-back, or in midfield, and has featured three times for City this season.
England beat Czechia 2-0 in Prague earlier in the week and thrashed Croatia 7-0 on Saturday. The Czechia return fixture kicks off at 7:45 pm UK time on Tuesday. Lewis made his senior England debut in November 2023 against North Macedonia.
