Iran’s seven Hormuz conditions explained: what we know

Iran says it will not reopen talks on the Strait of Hormuz until seven conditions of a June interim agreement are met. Here is what we know so far.
What happened: parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf set the conditions on October 4, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the strait could reopen within seven days if the US agrees.
The strait: it is the world’s most important oil chokepoint. About a fifth of global oil consumption passes through it, so any closure threat moves energy prices.
The seven conditions: neither side has published the full list. Diplomats say they relate to sanctions relief and security guarantees agreed in principle in June.
The channel: the US replied through Qatar, which mediated last week, according to Reuters. Direct talks between Washington and Tehran remain frozen.
What next: if the conditions are accepted, shipping through the strait could normalise within days. If not, the standoff continues and oil markets stay on edge.
