Argentina Thrash Burkina Faso 7-0 Before Messi Farewell

Argentina thrashed Burkina Faso 7-0 in a friendly in Buenos Aires on Saturday, days before Lionel Messi’s international farewell.
Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring in the fourth minute. His penalty was saved, but he smashed home the rebound. An own goal by Moumoune Diallo made it 2-0.
Gianluca Prestianni scored his first international goal in the 12th minute. Nico Paz added the fourth in the 35th minute, and Julian Alvarez made it 5-0 before half-time.
Substitute Franco Mastantuono scored his first senior goal in the 57th minute. Giuliano Simeone completed the rout in the third minute of stoppage time.
Burkina Faso arrived just five hours before kick-off. Their flight from Morocco was cancelled, so they fielded a young team.
Messi did not play. He will feature on Tuesday against Benin at the Monumental in his formal farewell after a 21-year career with Argentina.
Coach Lionel Scaloni has frozen the number 10 shirt. No player will wear it until after Messi’s final appearance. Lautaro’s goal was his 42nd for Argentina, level with Sergio Aguero in third place on the all-time list.
