Rohit Sharma becomes fastest opener to 10,000 ODI runs

Rohit Sharma became the fastest opener to score 10,000 runs in One Day Internationals during the third ODI against the West Indies in New Chandigarh on Saturday.
He needed just two runs at the start of India’s innings. He reached the mark on the third ball of the match, flicking Jayden Seales for two runs.
Rohit reached the landmark in 202 innings. That beats Sachin Tendulkar’s 22-year-old record of 214 innings, set against Australia in Brisbane in January 2004.
Rohit is only the second Indian and the fourth batter overall to reach 10,000 ODI runs as an opener. He joins Tendulkar, Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya and West Indies’ Chris Gayle in the elite club.
Earlier in the series, Rohit also crossed 12,000 runs in ODIs overall, becoming only the third Indian to do so after Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
The milestone underlines Rohit’s long run of consistency at the top of the order. Tendulkar remains the highest ODI run-getter as an opener with 15,310 runs.
