OpenAI Dots Explained: Agents That Work While You Sleep

OpenAI’s Dots, launched at DevDay on September 29, are always-on AI agents that keep working toward your goals across applications. Here is what you need to know.
Each Dot is powered by GPT-6 Astra and runs on its own cloud computer with its own browser. You give it a goal, a name and boundaries. It then pursues the goal around the clock, even after you close the app.
Dots work across more than 4,000 applications, including Slack and Microsoft Teams. They use Codex and ChatGPT Work to research, write documents, analyse data and build software. Chatting with a Dot does not use your ChatGPT allowance, but Codex and Work tasks it starts do.
The first wave is limited to Pro and Business Premium subscribers in eligible markets. Sensitive actions like password changes need explicit approval.
The launch sits alongside OpenAI’s decision to halve included usage on the 200-dollar Pro plan from October 30. It competes with Meta’s Muse agents, released earlier in September.
