Kumkum Mohod Wins Historic Archery Gold in Shoot-Off

Seventeen-year-old Kumkum Mohod created history on Saturday by winning India’s first-ever women’s individual recurve gold at the Asian Games.
The teenager from Amravati defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin in a dramatic single-arrow shoot-off. After the final finished level at 5-5 across five sets, Oh shot an 8 while Kumkum produced a perfect 10 to seal the gold.
Kumkum’s path to the final included a quarterfinal win over reigning world champion Kang Chaeyoung. She said after the match that she never looks at who is in front of her and focuses only on her own process.
The gold completed a three-medal campaign for Kumkum. She had already won the women’s recurve team gold and the mixed recurve team silver with Dhiraj Bommadevara earlier in the week.
The victory also secured India an early quota place for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. Tarundeep Rai, silver medallist in 2010, remains the only other Indian with an individual recurve medal at the Games.
