Trump announces $90 checks for 20 million US seniors

US President Donald Trump has announced payments of nearly 100 dollars for more than 20 million senior citizens. He made the announcement late on Friday night on his Truth Social platform. The White House said most qualifying seniors will receive 90 dollars through direct deposit early in October.
Those without direct deposit will get a physical cheque at their Medicare address. The money is meant to help pay Medicare Part B premiums. Trump said the funds would come from the Medicare Improvement Fund.
He described the fund as a slush fund misused by Democrats in Congress. The standard 2026 Medicare Part B premium is 202.90 dollars a month. The announcement is separate from refund cheques for about one million Americans overcharged for Affordable Care Act plans.
Trump also repeated his promise of a 5,000 dollar Trump Dividend for every US citizen if Republicans win the midterms. It is unclear whether the White House has the authority to divert the Medicare fund money. The announcement comes ahead of the November midterm elections.
Republicans are expected to face a tough contest amid voter anger over living costs.
