Fresh Nepal landslides kill about 30, strand trekkers

Fresh landslides and heavy rain have killed about 30 people in Nepal over the past week, the national disaster management authority said, as the Himalayan nation reels from August’s catastrophic flooding.
More than 1,900 families have been affected since late last week, with more than 240 homes damaged, TBS News reported. Roads, buildings and bridges were swept away across several districts.
Hundreds of trekkers on the Annapurna Circuit had to cut their hikes short. Many were helicoptered out of Manang and Mustang districts after heavy snow and collapsed roads made the trails impassable.
Survivors described the ordeal. One trekker stranded in upper Manang said the group made its own paths down muddy mountain slopes with a river below.
Nepal is still recovering from floods in August that killed more than 1,400 people. The new wave of disasters has stretched rescue teams, with agencies reporting that casualty counts are still changing daily.
