Drishyam explained: the story behind the 2026 finale

The Drishyam franchise is one of Hindi cinema’s most trusted thriller brands, and its final chapter released on October 2, 2026. Here is how the saga built its following.
The story began as a remake of Mohanlal’s 2013 Malayalam hit Drishyam. The Hindi version, starring Ajay Devgn as Vijay Salgaonkar, released in 2015. It follows a common man who uses his wit to protect his family after a crime, with Tabu playing police officer Meera Deshmukh.
Drishyam 2 arrived in 2022 and continued the cat-and-mouse game. This time, the makers moved away from the Malayalam original and gave the finale a fresh climax, which added to audience excitement. Reports noted that Mohanlal’s own Drishyam 3 had received a disappointing response.
The concluding film, directed by Abhishek Pathak, brings back Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Rajat Kapoor, with Jaideep Ahlawat and Prakash Raj joining the cast.
The finale opened to strong reviews and earned Rs 66.75 crore net in India on day one, the biggest opening of Devgn’s career.
