OpenAI hires ex-White House cyber official Thomas Lind

OpenAI has hired Thomas Lind, a former White House cyber official. He will lead cyber and strategic risk on the company’s national security policy team.
Lind joined OpenAI this week, The Information reported. He will report into a team led by Sasha Baker, a former deputy undersecretary of defense.
Lind served at the White House Office of the National Cyber Director from April 2025 to June 2026. He was head of policy and senior adviser to the director.
Before that, he spent more than three years at the National Security Agency. His focus was the overlap between AI policy and cybersecurity.
He was described as instrumental in crafting a June 2026 executive order on AI safety frameworks. The order set up a voluntary review process for high-capability models.
Lind left the White House saying he wanted more time with family. His exit was part of a wider wave of tech policy departures.
The hire comes as regulators probe AI risks. The FTC has opened an investigation into rogue AI agents at major labs.
