MPSC secretary Harpalkar’s deputation terminated

The Maharashtra government has terminated the deputation of MPSC secretary Mahendra Uttamrao Harpalkar. The General Administration Department issued the order on October 1. The move followed a meeting between Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and protesting competitive exam aspirants. Students have been agitating over question paper leak allegations and other issues. The government has also ordered a judicial inquiry into the complaints. MPSC chairman Vivek Bhimanvar will continue in his post. The government has assured that all examinations will remain offline. The deputation of the secretary was ended on administrative grounds. Student organisations said they would suspend their agitation after the government’s promises. Harpalkar had faced criticism from aspirants over exam management. The state says further action will follow the inquiry findings. Fadnavis met the protesting aspirants on Wednesday before the order. The judicial inquiry will examine the paper leak allegations. More action is expected once the inquiry submits its report. The case has drawn attention to exam security in the state.
